Glossary

Trap
A trap set in the field for sampling purposes. Traps are geographically referenced and can remain open indefinitely until closed. This allows for multiple checks of traps. Various types of traps are available in the Trap menu.
Survey
In Survey mode, the direction and duration of the user's movement are tracked. During surveys, users can collect Field Records. Different types of surveys are accessible through the Survey menu.
Effort
In the app, "effort" refers to checking traps or conducting surveys. Traps can be checked multiple times, allowing for repeated temporal sampling, while surveys are limited to a single effort each.
Field Record
An individual sample or record with associated data collected either in Trap mode or during Survey mode. Field Record data may include barcodes, multimedia, and additional custom attributes. There is no limit to the number of Field Records collected in a trap or during a survey.
Habitat
Notes regarding the habitat in the area where the user is conducting a Survey or checking Traps.
Response
Relevant only for the Chevron Project; "response" pertains to an incursion of a non-indigenous species. A collecting event (such as an entry in Pest-interception) may be part of a specific response.
Site
A list of standard sites on Barrow Island (currently only used for the Chevron Project). These sites provide geographic coordinates and are utilized solely in Pest_Interception.
OTU
A table defining a DArT Operational Taxonomic Unit by its 'type'. For instance, it may identify one member of a clade that remains consistent.
Identification OTU
Associates a specimen (Pest_ID) with an OTU number, typically a molecular clade from DArT. Each OTU is identified in the OTU table by associating it with a type specimen.
SSC
Standard Survey Component calculates a collector's effort based on their collected items. For example, a survey's walking path determines the duration of the effort.
